Cooperation and Collaboration are Essential When it Comes to Mother Nature
If we thoughtfully and diligently steward the environment, the environment will likely be kind to us. It is difficult to steward effectively if we are not aware of environmental conditions and how we have impacted nature’s ebb and flow.
That is why it is especially important to monitor conditions and that is why the headwaters of the Indian River in the Baker Woods Preserve is now host to a solar-powered water monitor. The monitor was designed and installed by Research, Applied Technology, Education and Services (RATES) as part of a broader effort to monitor waterways, including the Indian River Lakes and its tributaries.
The BWP monitor was recently installed by Dr. William Kirkey and his able crew. It will initially monitor wind speed, water depth and temperature with more sophisticated features forthcoming. We are grateful to project manager Patrick O’Brien, Bill Kirkey and the crew who courageously installed the monitor on a cold November morning. Please enjoy the photos of our chilly Indian River installation!
We are grateful to you. Happy Thanksgiving!
