Stewards Celebrate Hard Work…& Play

The weekend of April 9th and 10th was eventful and transformative in the BWP.

Our main pollinator garden was prepared for new and varied native pollinator plants thanks to dedicated and loyal members of the Black River Chapter of the ADK. Baker Woods Preserve South trails were cleared of wind damaged trees by the Carney / Nesbitt family; consequently that 5 mile trail system (accessible by a short paddle) was declared open for the season.

With seemingly endless tasks required to keep the BWP trails in the best possible condition we seldom take a walk on the trails without simultaneously doing maintenance. Our granddaughter Maebh, while a capable helper, always reminds us to bring joy to the stewardship process.

The photos below are of our dog, W.B Yeats, and granddaughter Maebh. They were taken (by Maebh’s dad) near Doris’ Deck following a long day of gardening and trail work. Their joy reminds us that, as nature’s stewards, it is important to celebrate the many varied gifts that the Baker Woods, and nature in general, provide!

Think spring!
